Everyone looks for the best “something” to help them become better at “something”. It is the nature of humans. I am one of those people always looking for a software/hardware/gadget to help me do things differently. I guess since you read this blog you are one of those people to. Look around you, if you put a label like “instant weight loss” or “do you want to look like this (picture of an attractive person)” you will immediately get readers and followers.
People want things for nothing.
Someone once said, everyone wants to go to heaven, no one wants to die. It is true for many fields. No one wants to go hungry but they want to lose weight. Same analogy goes for effectivity. No one want really to change, they want a tool that does it for them. Most of the people starting with GTD and going back to their old procrastinating selves just discover that it was not the tool, it is the person behind the tool.
It is not the tool it is YOU!
With that said, it is always the person behind the tool that is responsible. Once you have this epiphany, well you are ready to find the perfect tool.
I use EverNote, www.evernote.com, a perfect tool.
- Regardless of your device of choice, there is a client for it.
- It is dead-simple.
- It does photo/audio/writing etc. Good thought come to me while driving. I just read it into EverNote and it will store it in my inbox for later processing.
- There is a web-interface for you to share your notes as well. Which come in handy sometime.
- It is the lack of fancy-schpansy that makes this tool so great. The more stuff you can do, the more time you will put on the features rather than doing what you are suppose to do.
In summary, get a simple tool, put your time and energy in to producing and being creative. Don’t get things that will distract you!
