EverNote is a great tool for gathering, organizing and handling things. In earlier blogs I talk about why the simplicity is exactly the thing that makes EverNote superior to any other tool. Searching, attributes and folder is just enough features for a general GTD practitioner.
Sometimes you just like to have certain functionality or automation that you lack. If you are technical enough, you can always script it in your favorite language and operating system. However, if you are not technical, well you have to find other ways.
Attributes a quick tour
Attributes are meta-data that EverNote saves about all your notes. You can use these to sort, filter and search for notes.
As you can see you can have different attributes. Spend at least 8 minutes exploring the attributes. Don’t cheat, if you think you know it you haven’t discovered everything you can use.
Once you have had the epiphany of attributes, you will not be able to quit.
Couple of hints, when using Contains and Source attributes. First of all, don’t forget to click on All Notes. Second these two attributes work in pairs. If you want to have only one of them, collapse the branch you don’t need by clicking on the triangle to the left of the work.
Once you get used to the attributes you will find that most of the categories, tags and other tricks you might have created wasn’t really necessary.

Embarrassed to admit, I think I bought Evernote a few years back, and never got around to using it. 5 months ago I bought Dragon Speak voice-recognition software, and haven’t used it yet. I buy these productivity apps to save myself time, but the learning curve is a time and energy investment. Ironic.

You are definitely not alone! I do that all the time and to put on top of everything I buy interesting gadgets that I use for them for a short while …
However, I see this as the first step. Once you find a simple enough tool you will start using and see the benefits as well.
I find Evernote and the connection to web/email/outlook etc as a great help to gather things and leave notes to myself.
If you are not familiar with GTD, take a look around. It might be something “new” for you.

certainly like your website but you need to check the spelling on quite a few of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling issues and I find it very bothersome to tell the truth nevertheless I will certainly come back again.
